[Comment] Reassuring survival results of modern hip replacements
One of the first questions asked by almost every patient when the need for surgery is discussed is: how long does a hip replacement last? A 2019 study published in The Lancet1 combined available registry data to provide a generalisable answer to this question for patients who either have a total hip replacement in situ or were deciding whether to undergo surgery. A major limitation of this study, however, was the fact that many of the patients had hip replacements using older prostheses that might not survive as long as contemporary implants.
