While it was always a reach to project this tournament would feel like 104 Super Bowls, some matchups inevitably fit the blockbuster billing. Brazil and Morocco’s opener in Group C is this tournament’s first glamour fixture, pitting the five-time champions against the dark horse darlings of 2022, who arrive in great form.
Few know exactly what to expect from Carlo Ancelotti’s first World Cup on the touchline. A gilded figure on the club side, Ancelotti picked a squad teeming with stout center-backs and dynamic dribblers, but with some uncertainty in midfield, at full-back, and up top. Endrick finally taking a long-awaited leap would do wonders to assuage those latter concerns, and will most likely be necessary if Brazil are to snap their 24-year drought.

Ben Stokes warmed up with Durham, while James Coles made a glorious 224 for Sussex against Glamorgan
Look up to see some spraying bails, Bohanon bowled by Keith Dudgeon for eight, he’s having a bit of a rotten season, poor thing. Lancs 24-3.

Rosamund Pike kept her cool after a phone alarm in the front row interrupted a performance of Inter Alia on Saturday afternoon.
The actor berated an audience member earlier this month for texting on their phone during the performance at Wyndham’s theatre in London.

In 2002 there was a sense that Japan had slightly missed an opportunity. South Korea may have enjoyed the benefit of some favourable refereeing, but they also impressed. They were quick, technically good and tactically extremely flexible and they progressed to the semi-final of their home World Cup.
Japan did not do much wrong, topping their group before going down 1-0 to Turkey in the last 16, but the contrast with their co-hosts was inevitably underwhelming.

The G7 summit must recognize that extreme disparities in income, wealth, opportunity, and political influence are not only a defining feature of the global economy but also a major factor in many other shared challenges. For too long, the issue has been treated as a symptom rather than a cause.
Slowly but surely, the European Union is taking steps to reduce its current-account surplus and direct more of its substantial savings into domestic investment and growth. Unfortunately, at the G7 Summit in France this month, the United States will refuse to address global imbalances, including its own.
Under the guise of routine voter-roll maintenance, India’s Election Commission has purged tens of millions of voters, disproportionately affecting opposition strongholds, the poor, and Muslim minorities. The result is an electoral system increasingly designed to favor the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
As the postwar multilateral order gives way to a multipolar and more contested world, global governance must adapt or risk irrelevance. The upcoming G7 summit offers a unique opportunity to champion a coalition-based approach that translates shared interests into collective action.
AI is doing what no previous technology could, turning tacit human knowledge into a product that can be extracted, priced, and distributed at scale. Yet the same technology that democratizes cognitive labor may also weaken the human capacities on which complex societies depend.
