From Islamophobia to Remigration: What Happened in Copenhagen on 5 September 2026?

Copenhagen's “remigration” demonstration exposed something deeper than one Nazi salute: the increasingly blurred boundary between mainstream immigration politics, anti-Muslim rhetoric and Europe's resurgent far right. A few thousand far right extremists shouting anti-Islam slogans are certainly disturbing. But in a democracy, their influence is limited precisely because they are marginal. When similar themes are expressed, repeatedly and institutionally, by a prime minister or other senior political leaders, the potential societal impact is much greater and damaging.
